Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester Recertification

This 3 day class satisfies the recertification requirement for New Mexico. It consists of 2 days review of backflow prevention theory, application, installation requirements, and test procedures. Day 3 consists of a written and practical examinations where the student will be required to demonstrate their ability to test the reduced pressure, double check valve, pressure vacuum breaker, and spill-resistant pressure vacuum breaker backflow preventers.
Certification must be current.
Backflow Preventer Repair Classes
The objective of these courses is to provide students with knowledge of repairing small diameter (½” – 2”) or large diameter (2 ½”-10”)backflow preventers. The courses consist of classroom discussions and hands on portions. The classroom portions will inform students of specialized tools, troubleshooting techniques, and general repair procedures for backflow preventers.
The hands on portions will consist of backflow preventers in different stages of failure. The students will identify the failing component, disassemble the backflow preventer, repair, re-assemble, and then re-test it.
Students must possess licenses or certifications necessary to repair backflow preventers required by their jurisdiction having authority. Accrued CEU’s that are to be applied to recertification must be used before the student’s backflow certification expiration date. Earned CEU’s may be applied only once per certification period.

Basics of Cross Connection Control $125
The objective of this course is to provide students with general knowledge of cross connection control and backflow prevention. It consists of backflow prevention definitions and theory, components of a cross connection control program (including local ordinances), and types of backflow preventers approved by water utilities and the Foundation for Cross Connection Control and Hydraulic Research (USC). The two authorities for sizing parallel installations are also discussed. Additionally, detector assemblies which are designed for fire sprinkler systems are examined. The course is in a classroom setting. Accrued CEU’s that are to be applied to recertification must be used before the student’s backflow certification expiration date. Earned CEU’s may be applied only once per certification period.
